NAPILI, MAUI – In 2003, the weekly Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series began fulfilling a passion and mission of promoting and supporting traditional Hawaiian music in a consistent venue. Since that time over 300 consecutive weekly performances have been produced, welcoming over 35,000 guests to the shows. Along the way recognition and validation has been received in the form of four Grammy nominations for Best Hawaiian Music Album, winning three Grammy awards; winning the Hawai`i Music Awards and a Keep It Hawai`i Recognition Award, confirming that the music and stories coming out of this concert series are authentic and of the highest caliber.

Concert co-producers Wayne Wong, Paul Konwiser and George Kahumoku Jr said,

"Thinking of the future, we want to be able to do these wonderful shows for years to come. But with visitors on Maui at record low levels, and a normally slow fall season approaching, we‘ve decided to take a break, catch our breath, and come back even stronger. We are going to suspend our weekly Wednesday performances at the conclusion of the August schedule, and restart them on December 30, 2009."

During the break the production team will be working on improving and evolving the show to make it even better. In addition, the team just released their newest CD, Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar -Volume 2, the fifth compilation of live music captured at the weekly Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series at The Napili Kai Beach Resort on Maui.

The co-producers emphasized. "We‘re grateful to our audiences, our wonderful musicians and the Maui community for supporting our show. We‘ll be back in December with a show that will be better than ever. See you then!"

More information and the new performance schedule will be posted on the website at www.slackkey.com.
