A Star-studded Evening with Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar

LAHAINA, MAUI--Celebrating the 7th Annual Slack Key Guitar Workshop
presented by Hawaiian visionary George Kahumoku, Jr., the Masters of
Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series will feature a star-studded
evening on June 22, 2004. The concert series features two shows, one
at 6:00 pm and the other at 8:30 pm, held in an intimate theater
setting at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua every Tuesday.
For the concerts on Tuesday, June 22, Keoki Kahumoku will host slack
key master Cyril Pahinui during the 6:00 show, and at 8:30 pm George
Kahumoku, Jr. will bring slack key legend Ledward Kaapana to the
stage.
"It's a perfect night for many of our loyal patrons to see both
shows," said concert promoter Paul Konwiser, one of the co-founders of
Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Productions. "But no matter which show you
choose, there is sure to be a surprise guest or two coming to the
stage to jam with George and Keoki, since their colleagues are in town
that week to teach at the Slack Key Workshop," he added.
Kahumoku's Slack Key Guitar Workshop will run from June 20 through 27
at The Mauian Hotel in Napili, culminating in student appearances at
the annual Ki Ho`alu Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival, which takes
place on Sunday, June 27 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. Dennis
Kamakahi, Cyril Pahinui, Ledward Kaapana, Ozzie Kotani, Carlos Andrade
and Bob Brozman, along with Danny and Iwalani Palakiko, are scheduled
instructors for the workshop.
In the Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series, each
master draws from the traditions of the area where he or she grew up
and from the music of his or her `ohana (family), which enhances an
individual¹s way of performing.
