Dancing Cat
Records |
 |
Dancing Cat Records was founded by
pianist George Winston to record both the musicians who have
influenced his music and musicians whose music he felt needed to
be preserved for future generations. In 1988, George turned his
attention to his favorite music, ki ho'alu or slack key
guitar. He began producing a series of recordings of the older,
more traditional slack key guitar masters, followed by recordings
of the younger Hawaiian guitar players. The website is a wonderful
Slack Key Guitar resource with history, artist bios and a tour
calendar.

The Whalesong
Project |
 |
is inspired by the beauty of oceans
and the mysterious and incredible world of sound, which whales and
dolphins use to navigate and communicate across vast oceans.
Whalesong is a group of
volunteers dedicated to inspiring stewardship of the oceans and
the environment, and to helping "give a microphone" to important
voices that may not be heard above the noise of the modern world.
The vocalizations of these ancient cetaceans have inspired
music, poetry, scientific discovery, and perhaps even languages
and cultures. Dan Sythe has a deep interest in the Hawaiian
Islands, its culture and environment and was inspirational during
the startup of slackkey.com
