Peter deAquino was born July 14,1984 on the island of Maui. As a
child he was always surrounded music. His Papa Joe Cordero would
stay in his room and play slack key guitar all day. On his father's
side of the family, music also played a huge role. Every family
party would turn into a huge jam session, and as a child, the rice
shaker was the only thing Peter was allowed to play. This would
change in the years to come.
Peter started playing ukulele when he was in the fourth grade.
Everyday after school he would sneak under his dad's bed and play
ukulele until his father came home. When his father found out,
instead of punishing Peter, he sat down and taught him his first
song, Henehene Kou Aka.
A year later, Peter watched his cousin Garrett Probst perform at the
First Annual Youth Ukulele Players Contest held at the Hula Grill.
At that moment, he knew that playing ukulele was the only thing he
wanted to do. At the next Ukulele Contest, he entered and placed
second. The following year, he took first place in the solo and
group division playing with his cousin Garrett.
In 1997, he started playing with the Keoki and Uncle George Kahumoku
Jr. He also learned ukulele and music theory from Herb Ohta Jr.
Now he plays at the Hula Grill in Ka'anapali, Kimo's in Lahaina, and
The Masters Of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Concert Series at the
Napili Kai.
Peter and Garrett last performed in The Masters of Hawaiian Slack Key
