CARLOS
ANDRADE is a native of Kaua'i, a surfer, canoe-builder, and
grandfather, as well as an accomplished musician, composer and
university professor. He was a crew member of the 1986 voyage from
Aotearoa (New Zealand) to Tonga and Samoa and the 1992 voyage from
Rarotonga to Hawai'i.His compositions have been recorded by artists
such as the Gabby Pahinui Band, Don Ho (Moonlight
Lady), The Makaha Sons of Hawai'i, Moe Keale (Limahuli)
and the Peter Moon Band (Hula Lady). He
also has recorded an album of his own with the band Na Pali
(Pacific Tunings).
For the last two summers, Carlos has toured with Taj Mahal and
the Hula Blues Band and had two of his compositions recorded on
Taj's albums. The first album was released in Europe as
The New Hula Blues (No Na Mamo) and released in
America as Sacred Island. Hanapepe Dreams,
his second album with the Hula Blues Band, contains his
composition Moonlight Lady.
Carlos teaches classes in Hawaiian Music at the University of
Hawai'i where he is a professor in the Center for Hawaiian Studies.

Guitar Concert Series at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, Maui on
